Teaching Statement

My teaching is grounded in a feminist pedagogy which centers on an intersectional analysis of racial, gender, sexual, and class difference. I argue that the politics of knowledge production matter in both intellectual and activist contexts. In particular, my courses require students to interrogate the relationship between one’s social location and the production of knowledge. In addition, my courses are designed to encourage students to think of themselves as both scholars and social change agents, rather than passive recipients of knowledge. I aim to create a classroom environment in which all students feel empowered to speak and write as scholars in their own right.
